The world famous Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy


Hassan Fathy was an Egyptian architect. He is considered the pioneer of building technology in Egypt, especially by working to re-establish the use of mud brick. Fathy trained as an architect in Egypt. He graduated in 1926 from the University of King Fouad; which is now the University of Cairo. He designed his first mud brick buildings in the late 1930s. He held several governmental positions.

Moreover, he was chosen as the head of Architectural Section of The Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo. He used ancient design methods and materials. He trained local inhabitants to make their own materials and build their own buildings. Also, ancient skills affected his designs.
